FlowCAM^® Front-Fill™ Illumination Option

The FlowCAM is normally operated as a "brightfield" instrument, meaning that the particles are illuminated from behind with the light source facing toward the camera. This works well with transparent or semi-transparent particles. However, when opaque particles are imaged, this produces a "silhouette" image with no detail on the particle's surface. By adding "darkfield" illumination with the Front-Fill illumination option, details on an opaque particle's surface such as texture and color are seen ,as show below:
